Suspected Boko Haram members have attacked the Military base in Allawa town in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

The incident occurred around 1:30 am on Thursday, April 25, 2024, when the terrorists invaded the town on motorcycles, with no less than three of them on each bike, fully armed.

Reports suggest that the armed men may have launched a reprisal mission after the Military neutralized about fifty of them during a fierce battle in the area last week.

Approximately 200 fully armed insurgents were reportedly involved in the attack.

An eyewitness in the area, speaking anonymously, stated that a significant number of insurgents out of the approximately 200 stormed the Military Camp, overpowering those on duty. Meanwhile, others invaded the village, firing bullets at houses.

Cash, foodstuffs, and other valuables were looted from the residents of the town and nearby villages.

The exact number of casualties among civilians, military personnel, and armed men remains unknown.

The Military Camp was reportedly deserted by the deployed military personnel following the attack.

In response to the escalating violence, residents of Allawa town and neighboring communities such as Pandogari, Kukoki, and Bassa have begun fleeing the area for safety.

Just last week, suspected Boko Haram members ambushed and killed two military officers and four soldiers in Karaga, also within Shiroro local government area of the State.

Efforts to obtain confirmation and response from the state police command, specifically its Spokesman Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, proved unsuccessful as his number could not be reached.
