Kuwait has declared a three-month amnesty period, starting from March 17, 2024, until June 17, 2024, providing relief to expatriates who have breached the country’s residency regulations.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Acting Minister of Interior, unveiled the initiative, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan.

The amnesty enables individuals in violation to rectify their status or exit Kuwait without incurring fines, with an estimated benefit for over 120,000 expatriates.

This move aligns with Kuwait’s commitment to humanitarian efforts, offering an opportunity for individuals to comply with legal frameworks without fear of penalties.

Throughout this grace period, violators have the choice to settle any outstanding fines and regularise their residency status according to prescribed regulations or depart the country via designated ports without facing penalties, while retaining the option to return to Kuwait under revised guidelines.

Nevertheless, individuals encountering administrative or legal hurdles are encouraged to seek assistance from the Directorate General of Residency Affairs to explore potential solutions within the legal framework.

After the amnesty period, strict legal measures will be implemented against non-compliant individuals, including deportation and potential blacklisting.

Residency Affairs departments across all six governorates are preparing to facilitate the seamless processing of status adjustments, with a maximum fine limit of KD 600 for those opting to regularise their residency status.
