On Tuesday, the Rwandan government expressed its approval of the British parliament’s decision to pass its migrant deportation bill.
The legislation, initially proposed two years ago, was finally approved late on Monday.
Government spokesperson Alaine Mukuralinda stated on Tuesday that Rwanda is prepared to receive migrants from the UK.
“This partnership has been in place for two years, with a budget allocated to support migrants upon their arrival in Rwanda,” he stated.
“Whether the plane arrives with them today or tomorrow, they can be welcomed, provided with accommodation and given medical assistance if necessary.”
Hours after the act passed on Tuesday, five migrants tragically lost their lives while attempting to cross the English Channel. Alaine highlighted that the Rwanda plan offers a viable solution to prevent such fatalities.
Human rights organizations have pledged to persist in their opposition to the policy, condemning it as unethical and inhumane.
