In a breakthrough for the Nigerian Army’s counter-terrorism operations, notorious terrorist commander Lawal Kwalba has surrendered to troops in Kaduna State.

This significant development follows intensified military operations targeting terrorist enclaves in the region.

According to the report, on Thursday, 28 May 2024, Kwalba turned himself in, accompanied by his fighters, as a result of the troops’ relentless operational activities that have been exerting pressure on terrorist factions.

This surrender marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Kaduna State and the broader region.

“During the surrender, troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, a motorbike, and two magazines loaded with 7.62 mm Special ammunition from the terrorist surrenderee.

“Kwalba is currently undergoing thorough profiling at a military facility, which is expected to provide valuable insights that could aid in dismantling remaining terrorist networks.”

Although much isn’t known about the profile of Kwalba, in 2022, the Kaduna state government confirmed that the Nigerian troops cleared his camp located in Rafin Dawa area of Chikun Local of the state.

The government said that during the raid, the troops also recovered batteries from the bandit’s hideout. The materials indicate likely plans to manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) considering the bandit’s close alliance with terrorists.

This development underscores the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-terrorism operations and demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.

The surrender of a high-profile terrorist commander like Lawal Kwalba is a testament to the success of the military’s efforts and serves as a significant blow to terrorist organizations operating in the area.
