New Zealand police said on Monday that a mass shooting in Auckland during which a gunman killed two victims and killed himself during a shootout at the opening of the Women’s World Cup, was suicide.
The flag off of the tournament on Tuesday in Auckland was disrupted when a gunman continuously fired at a building site on the city’s waterfront.
When a post-mortem was conducted on the 24-year-old gunman, it was found that he was injured during an exchange of shots between armed officers.
However, Detective Superintendent, Ross McKay, said,”it has also confirmed his fatal injury was self-inflicted.”
Among those injured during the shooting is an officer whom McKay said, “will have a long road to recovery,” and three others who are still recovering in a hospital.
