Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, suspended by President Bola Tinubu, appeared at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.

Emefiele arrived on the court premises at 9:20 a.m for trial over an allegation of being in possession of a gun.

The former CBN governor is to stand a trial on a two-count of being in possession of a single-barreled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

It will be recalled that the Department of State Services on July 13 reportedly filed a two-count of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against Emefiele.

The DSS in the charge sheet accused Emefiele of possessing a single-barreled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

The service also charged Emefiele in the second count with illegally possessing 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a license.

The offence allegedly committed by Emefiele is said to be contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act and punishable under Section 27 (1) (b) (Ii) of the same Act.

Prudence Journal reported that President Bola Tinubu on June 10 suspended Emefiele for reforms in the financial sector and investigation into his office.

Emefiele was subsequently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
