American ex-president Donald Trump said that if he were elected president again, he would pardon and apologize to the people who participated in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6.
He said that he would be looking for pardons, “full pardons” of those convicted, with an apology. More than 875 people have been charged with crimes related to the January 6 attack, and already 370 people have pleaded guilty. Analysis from NPR shows that over 500 people were injured and five people died in connection with the attack.
Trump also said that he is donating to the victims of the attack. “I am financially supporting people that are incredible and they were in my office actually two days ago, so they’re very much in my mind,” Trump said. “It’s a disgrace what they’ve done to them. What they’ve done to these people is disgraceful.”

From hearings, it is clear that Donald Trump told the crowd to go to the Capitol Building and resisted orders to stop the violence.
Trump has hinted that he will run for the presidency again in 2024, but has yet to confirm if he is going to. If Trump does run for president in 2024, his grip on the Republican party and its base remain strong, so he would likely be a strong contender.
The ex-president made a comment on the same day that Thomas Webster, a retired New York police officer, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting officers outside the Capitol building during the Jan. 6 riot.
Donald Trump quoted that “Some of the legal people on the other side, they’re the most cold-hearted people. They don’t care about families. They don’t care about anything. They want to be tough at the border. Well, if you’re so tough at the border, why did you take so many people into your country? We have a big heart for these people, but we can’t take them all in.”
The judge who sentenced Webster said that other than the police officer, the other victim in the attack was “democracy”.
