Should former WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world champion, Anthony Joshua and former WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, clash this year, Lennox Lewis is backing the American to emerge victorious.
Lewis is a British boxing legend and former undisputed heavyweight world champion, but for this bout he is going against his fellow countryman.
When asked who might win the fight, Lewis told ESNEWS: “Joshua against Wilder? Definitely Wilder.
“Wilder’s got that thing in him where he wants to hurt you and I’ve seen it every time he throws that right hand, he’s trying to damage you with that right hand. He’s throws it with intention.”
And it seems there is a good chance we will get to see whether Lewis is right or not, as Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed that there have been concrete offers from Saudi Arabia to host the fight.
This comes as part of a rumoured Saudi-Arabian funded heavyweight tournament that is expected to take place in Oleksandr Usyk, with the winners fighting each other.
“We’ve got a great relationship with Prince Khalid (Chairman of Skills Challenge Entertainment) and Skills Challenge Entertainment (A Saudi Arabian event management company),” Hearn told Boxing Social.
“We’ve done fights with them and we know when they want something, they want it. They want to make it happen and I believe in them to make something like this happen.
“They tell me that Deontay is in a great place, Usyk’s in a great place and they’re talking to Tyson Fury but I don’t know where they’re up to.
“We’re up for it, we’ve had some concrete offers come in this week for the fight and I don’t see an issue.”
