The wanted Nigerian notorious bandit leader, Dogo Gide has died after sustaining gunshot injuries from the Nigerian army’s troops.
According to reports, Gide sustained gunshot injuries during an encounter with the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) in Madada forest in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, on March 12, 2024.
A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad made this known in a post via his official X handle on Wednesday morning.
He wrote: “Woke up to the good news that Dogo Gide, has finally kicked the bucket. The notorious bandits leader died from gunshot wounds sustained during a confrontation with Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) forces.”
Gide was responsible for numerous kidnappings and killings of innocent villagers, causing widespread displacement in the North.
His operational base frequently shifts among states in the North West, particularly Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Katsina.
On October 30, 2023, Gide narrowly evaded capture and death during a confrontation with Nigerian troops in Zamfara State.
The military launched a surprise operation targeting his strongholds in Dansadau, Mai Tukunya, and Babban Doka villages. Despite sustaining severe gunshot wounds, Gide managed to escape.
According to a military source embedded in the operation, Gide’s compound in Yau Sarkin Pawa was breached, thoroughly searched, and subsequently destroyed by the troops.
The operation, conducted by the Special Forces of OPHD, was prompted by credible intelligence regarding terrorist activities in Sangeko forest, Kebbi state.
During the operation, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, resulting in the recovery of various items, including a tailoring factory used for producing uniforms for military and security agencies, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), medical supplies suspected to be used for treating wounded terrorists, as well as operational motorcycles and sewing machines. These items were promptly destroyed by the Special Forces personnel.
