The United States has called off a planned meeting with Israel following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s criticism of the Biden administration for delaying arms shipments.
Netanyahu stated in a video posted on X Tuesday that he finds it inconceivable that weapons and ammunition have been withheld from Israel in recent months.
Originally set to take place in Washington and focused on Iran’s nuclear program, the meeting was intended to be led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.
However, instead, only a meeting between National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will occur, as reported by Haaretz, citing a senior Israeli official.
President Joe Biden paused some shipments of American weapons to Israel, citing concerns over civilian protection compliance.
In early June, Israel finalised a deal to purchase 25 US-made F-35 fighter jets for $3 billion, as announced by the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
In April of the previous year, Biden approved a $26.4 billion aid package for Israel, which included $14 billion in military assistance.
