The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken steps to aid thousands affected by heavy rainfall in Davao de Oro Province, southern Philippines.

The downpour led to floods and a landslide in the Elizalde district, causing numerous casualties, injuries, and missing individuals, as well as extensive property damage.

Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, emphasized, “Sending food supplies underscores the UAE’s commitment to offering vital relief during crises, particularly natural disasters resulting in severe food shortages, requiring intervention to assist affected citizens.”

He reiterated the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide assistance and support to those affected by the devastating floods in Davao de Oro.

These initiatives mirror the UAE’s enduring commitment, as established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and in accordance with the UAE leadership’s directives to consistently aid and respond promptly to nations in times of crises and disasters.

In response, Rex Gatchalian, Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Republic of the Philippines, conveyed gratitude to the UAE and its wise leadership for their humanitarian support and solidarity with the Philippines during times of crisis.
