400 Nigerians including 90 females and 310 males, have been deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).The deportees arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where they were received by officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other stakeholders.

Earlier, 103 Nigerians had been deported from Turkey and similarly welcomed by NEMA and other government agencies.

Additionally, 264 Nigerian passengers faced visa cancellations upon arrival at the Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 13, 2023.

In July, Nigeria repatriated 190 citizens from the UAE.

A statement signed by NEMA’s North Central Zonal Director, Bashir Idris Garga, confirmed that the deportees had been profiled and documented by relevant agencies.

“The returnees were profiled and documented by the appropriate agencies and sensitized to conduct themselves with decorum and responsibility upon their return to Nigeria. The Federal Government urges all Nigerians, wherever they are, to act as exemplary ambassadors of their country,” said NEMA.

The Nigerian government has once again called for calm regarding the deportations.
