Reports from local media indicate that a car veered off track during a motor race in Sri Lanka, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals.

Additionally, at least 18 others sustained injuries in the accident, which occurred during the Fox Hill Supercross event in Diyatalawa on Sunday.

Among the casualties were four race officials and spectators, including an eight-year-old girl, as confirmed by the army.

The race, which marked its 28th run and was organized by the Sri Lankan military, drew over 100,000 spectators. Eyewitness videos depict people rushing to the scene following the incident, prompting the suspension of the event.

Two victims succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the local military hospital, while some of the injured remain in critical condition.

An ongoing police investigation seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
