On Thursday, two Philippine navy pilots lost their lives in a helicopter crash during a training flight, as confirmed by the military.
The navy reported that a Robinson R22 helicopter carrying two officers was compelled to conduct an emergency landing near a market south of Manila.
Despite being promptly transported to nearby hospitals, the pilots succumbed to their injuries, the navy stated.
The navy stated that similar aircraft have been grounded while an investigation is conducted to ascertain the cause of the crash.
They emphasized that their aircraft undergo regular maintenance and inspections to guarantee airworthiness.
“Nevertheless, we are leaving no stone unturned as we strive to prevent such accidents in the future,” the navy added.
In the past, the Philippines’ military has experienced accidents involving its aircraft, prompting ongoing efforts to upgrade military assets.
In January 2023, a tragic incident occurred when two military pilots lost their lives in a plane crash during a training flight.
“In 2021, tragedy struck as a military aircraft, carrying troops bound for counter-insurgency operations, crashed, resulting in the loss of 53 lives.
This incident marked the deadliest military air accident in nearly three decades, according to Reuters.
