Tragic incident unfolds as man takes lives of three children, house-help in Kenya

A man in Bomet County, Kenya, perpetrated a horrifying act by brutally murdering four people, including his two children, a relative’s child and a househelp in a village.

Despite the urgency of the situation, he remained at large on Saturday due to fears that his apprehension could escalate the danger.

The tragic incident unfolded on Friday, March 1, in the Silibwet area, as confirmed by the police.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Robert Kilel, allegedly armed himself with a machete before embarking on a killing spree, indiscriminately hacking the victims who ultimately succumbed to their injuries, according to the police. Bomet Central sub-county Deputy Police Commander Ali Bashir revealed that the victims included the man’s two-year-old daughter, 16-year-old son, eight-year-old niece and a 16-year-old househelp.

“We do not know the motive so far,” he stated.

Brandishing a machete, he initiated his rampage by targeting his daughter, slashing her under the cheek.

His next victim was his niece, whom he attacked in a similar manner. Subsequently, he inflicted multiple cuts on the house help.

Despite the 16-year-old boy’s attempt to flee, the suspect caught up with him and fatally wounded him, as confirmed by the police.

Following the tragic events, the bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Tenwek Hospital mortuary for preservation, awaiting autopsy.

As the search for the suspect continues, police have confirmed an ongoing hunt. This incident echoes a similar tragedy that unfolded last week in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, where a man also took the lives of four of his relatives.

Following the incident, the perpetrator was apprehended and is currently facing charges in connection with the crime.
