On Saturday, a large gathering of supporters from a Pakistani political party took place near the capital, Islamabad, where they condemned Israeli strikes in Gaza and urged the government to enhance aid to the Palestinians.
The demonstrators also called for Pakistan to label Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “a terrorist”. There was no immediate response from the government after the rally in Rawalpindi.
Without diplomatic relations with Israel, Pakistan has been advocating for a cease-fire in the ongoing eight-month Israel-Hamas conflict and has recently sent relief supplies to Palestinians in Gaza.
The leader of the Islamist Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan party, Saad Rizvi, stated that the sit-in would continue until the government responds to their demands.
A significant number of police officers were stationed near the rally, which occurred alongside a notable rise in militant attacks throughout Pakistan.
This heightened security was intended to safeguard participants and mitigate any risks of unrest, especially given the escalating violence in various regions of the country.
