In the heart of Athi River, Machakos County, Kenya, a distressing incident has sent shockwaves through the community. A 40-year-old man stands accused of s*xually assaulting his 13-year-old stepdaughter, casting a shadow over the tranquil township.
The 40-year-old man was apprehended for reportedly s*xually assaulting his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Athi River, Machakos County.
The suspect was captured at his rented residence in Embakasi Estate within Athi River Township on Friday.
According to Athi River South subcounty police commander Jos Mudavadi, the suspect has been evading arrest since allegedly committing the offense in January 2024.
He was apprehended at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, three days after returning to the house from his hideout, prompted by a tip-off.
The complainant in the case is the minor’s mother, who reported the matter to Athi River police station on January 28, 2024.
The minor is a Grade 8 student at a local public school in Athi River sub-county.
According to a medical report reviewed by The Star, the victim underwent examination at a private hospital in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on January 30, 2024.
Mudavadi stated that the suspect will be brought before the Mavoko Law Courts in Machakos County on Monday.
