Former Barcelona Star, Luis Suarez has confirmed that he is making a return to his first club Nacional in Uruguay.
The 35-year-old is a free agent after his contract at Atletico Madrid expired last month.
Suarez scored 69 goals in 110 matches for Liverpool in the Premier League, helping them to win the League Cup, and achieving icon status on the Kop.
The Uruguayan has been linked with a host of clubs since, with a recent report claiming that he had been offered to Borussia Dortmund.
A more recent one stated that Suarez was wanted by MLS club LAFC to form a partnership with Gareth Bale.
Now the star himself has confirmed that he is heading back to Nacional 16 years after he left them to head to Europe.
Suarez revealed the news in a video on Instagram, saying: “I’ve now reached a pre-agreement in order to join Nacional, it was impossible for me to say no to this opportunity.
“I hope final details will be resolved soon in order to complete the deal officially.”
Nacional president Jose Fuente flew out to Spain to convince the star to come back to the team that he started his pro career at earlier this month.
News quickly got out, and thousands of supporters wore face masks of the forward last week to celebrate his imminent arrival.
Suarez left Nacional back in 2006 to move to Holland with Groningen after coming through the youth ranks with Montevideo-based outfit.
He soon joined Ajax and then after five years in the Netherlands, he got his big transfer to Liverpool.
