Spanish tennis player Aaron Cortes, 29, has been banned from the sport until 2039 after confessing to 35 corruption charges.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency revealed that Cortes fixed match outcomes for monetary gain, engaged in tennis betting, neglected to report corrupt approaches, and provided money to tournament officials in exchange for a wildcard.
He received a 15-year ban and a $75,000 fine, with $56,250 suspended. The offences occurred between 2016 and 2019.
The ITIA was established to uphold the integrity of professional tennis globally.
Cortes, who achieved a career-high singles ranking of 955, “fully cooperated with the ITIA investigation and accepted an agreed sanction,” stated the organisation.
He is banned from participating in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorised or sanctioned by the Association of Tennis Professionals, International Tennis Federation, Women’s Tennis Association, or any national association.
