Russian defence ministry said it foiled Ukrainian terrorist assault on Moscow in the early hours of Monday, even as the mayor of Russian capital disclosed that two drones had hit non-residential buildings in the city.

The onslaught reportedly came after Kyiv had threatened a reprisal for a Russia missile attack on the Black Sea Port of Odesa.

“A Kyiv regime attempt to carry out a terrorist attack using two drones on objects on the territory of the city of Moscow was stopped,” Russia’s defence ministry said.

“Two Ukrainian Drones were suppressed and crashed. There are no casualties.”

According to TASS News Agency, one drone crashed in Komsomolsky Prospekt, near Russia’s defence ministry, while another hit a business centre on Likhacheva Street by one Moscow’s main ring roads.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that the drone strikes hit non-residential buildings around 4:00 local time (0100GMT).

He said that emergencies were ongoing at the scene, and that no casualties were reported.

A video of the business centre posted by the RIA Novosti news agency showed some damage that was visible to the top of the building. The road around it was closed.

Moscow has reportedly been hit by many drones this year, with one of the drones striking the Kremlin in May.

Russia declared that it knocked down early this month five Ukrainian drones that caused turmoil in the functioning of Moscow’s Vnukovo International airport.
