Popular Nigerian Transwoman Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has been freed from prison and spoken out against the abuse of the naira after his release from prison.
Bobrisky was on Monday, August 5, 2024, freed from Kirikiri Correctional Centre, where he had been serving a six-month sentence for the misuse of Naira by spraying it at parties. In a video shared on social media, Bobrisky is seen leaving the prison with two friends.

During an interview with GoldMyne TV, she urged Nigerians to avoid abusing the naira, advising them to learn from his experience.

She stressed that legal issues can arise from seemingly minor offences, not just major criminal activities.

She said, “You have to follow the rules and laws. Don’t spray money, or you might end up as a resident of Kirikiri. Trust me, it’s not just about serious crimes—something minor can land you in jail.”

On April 5, 2024, Bobrisky was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with six counts of money laundering and related offences.

She was convicted, though Justice Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed two of the charges.

The court sentenced Bobrisky to six months in prison for naira abuse, with no option for a fine, as a deterrent to others.

Bobrisky’s case was similar to that of an actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, who was convicted for spraying and trampling on new naira notes at a wedding.

A viral video from January 28, 2023, led to her arrest on February 1. On February 2, she was sentenced to six months in prison or a N300,000 fine by Judge Chukwujekwu Aneke.
