Express Tribune reported a heartbreaking incident where a desperate Pakistani man took the lives of his wife and seven children using a grass-cutting cleaver on Thursday.
The tragedy, believed to be fuelled by poverty and unemployment, occurred in the Mud Wala area within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station, Alipur district of Muzaffargarh, Punjab province, Pakistan.
Police stated that the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, surrendered himself to the authorities after the devastating act.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz conveyed her deepest condolences regarding the heartbreaking incident, directing the Inspector General of Punjab Police to promptly compile a comprehensive report on the tragedy.
Emphasising the need for a thorough investigation, she called for severe punishment for the perpetrator.
This sorrowful event comes shortly after another distressing incident in Punjab’s Toba Tek Singh.
Days earlier, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, resulting in the loss of six family members, including five children and their mother.
The incident in Toba Tek Singh unfolded during a heated altercation between Nazia Bibi and her husband, Asghar Arain.
In a desperate and devastating act, Nazia poisoned the tea consumed by all the children, including herself.
These tragic events underscore the profound societal challenges confronting many families and highlight the pressing need for comprehensive support systems to avert such heart-wrenching tragedies.
