On Monday evening, Chief Adebayo Lawal was sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State following the impeachment of former governor, Alhaji Rauf Olaniyan.
The swearing ceremony held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, was sequent to his confirmation by the Assembly after his nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde, as replacement for Olaniyan.
The acting Deputy Governor, was administered the Oath of Allegiance and Office by Chief Justice Munta Abimbola.
Makinde urged his deputy to put the state’s interests first and see his new job as a trust position.
“The new position is evidence of Lawal’s excellence in his previous job.
“The reward of hard work is more work. That’s why they are giving you more work.
“The position of deputy governor is a position of trust, our masters are the good people of Oyo State. This is a job that we need to be diligent in because it places us by their side as they go about trusting and guiding them into prosperity.
He said that the Ministry of Justice, in his opinion, should also be under his supervision.
During a press conference, the new Oyo State Deputy Governor pledged to build on his previous performance by supporting Makinde in other governorship duties.
The swearing ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the House, Mr. Debo Ogundoyin, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi; Secretary to the State Government, Olubamiwo Adeosun; Commissioners, some members of the state House of Assembly, and others.
