At least one had been killed while twenty six others had been injured as a Ukrainian village councillor set off hand grenades at a meeting.
The incident took place Friday morning at the headquarters of the village council of Keretsky in western Ukraine’s mountainous Zakarpattia region.
A video posted by the police on Telegram showed a man dressed in black entering the door of the council meeting during a heated discussion.
He then pulled three hand grenades from his pockets, released the safety pins and dropped them on the floor, triggering explosions as those at the meeting screamed.
“As a result, 26 people were wounded, six of whom are in grave condition while medics are trying to resuscitate the man who threw the grenades,” the police statement said.
Ukraine’s police have reported that the Ukrainian Secret Service (SBU) has initiated a terrorism investigation, and the national police are conducting a probe into the illegal handling of weapons. The incident occurred during a live video discussion on social media, where a man entered the room over 1.5 hours into the debate, stood by the door, and then took out a grenade. The video showed chaos, darkness, and smoke inside the small room, with injured individuals on the floor.
The authorities have not disclosed the man’s identity. It should be noted that many Ukrainians have access to weaponry due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.
