The Nigeri’as ruling party – All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Abdullah Ganduje, has been suspended by executive members of his ward.
Ganduje’s suspension was communicated by Halliru Gwanzo, the legal adviser of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday.
Gwanjo said Ganduje was suspended for the former Kano State governor to clear his name in allegations of corruption.
According to him, the Executive members of the ward resolved to suspend Ganduje’s membership after a vote of no confidence passed on him due to his inability to clear his name from a wide range of allegations of corruption, particularly the widely circulated video where he allegedly received dollars as a bribe from a contractor.
“We decided to suspend Dr. Ganduje from the party due to the seriousness of the allegations against him,” Gwanzo stated.
He stated that the suspension is effective from Monday, 15 April 2024 until the former governor of the state clears himself from the allegations.
Recall that last week, Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration in Kano State filed at least eight criminal charges against Ganduje, his predecessor for allegedly stealing N5.6 billion from Kano’s coffers and taking bribes from public works contractors totalling almost half a million dollars.
In 2018, a sequence of videos released by Daily Nigerian captured Mr. Ganduje smiling widely as he stuffed bundles of American dollars into his Babanriga, a traditional garment with spacious pockets, commonly worn by men in the northern region.
The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, said Ganduje would be arraigned alongside his wife, son and five others.
The accused individuals, as listed in the writ of summon, include Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Hafsat Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lesage General Enterprises.
