The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially proscribed the Islamic Movement (Shiites) in Nigeria following weeks of public activities and clash with the Nigeria Police Force.
The government had last week obtained a court order to place a ban on all public activities and demonstration by the group after claiming the religious movement has been hijacked by extremists.
Mohammed Adamu, Inspector General of Police, announced the proscription order by the federal government at a press conference in Abuja, today.
The IMN has been protesting to demand the release of their leader Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been arrested and detained since 2015 despite court order asking the federal government to release him.
