A Pretoria High Court has sentenced Jude Ikenna Ijegulu, a 34-year-old Nigerian national, and his 29-year-old partner, Elizabeth Botes to life jail terms for human trafficking and running a brothel.

In the sentencing, Ijegulu received two life terms for two counts of rape, along with an additional two years for being in the country illegally.

On Saturday, the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported that the court also mandated that his name be included in the National Register of Sexual Offenders.

According to Lumka Mahanjana, spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority’s Gauteng branch, the sentences were welcomed.

The couple operated a brothel in Centurion from November 2016 to September 2017, where they held two women against their will.

During this time, Ijegulu not only raped the women but also subjected them to drug supply, physical abuse, and further sexual assault.
