France has warned its citizens to “imperatively refrain from travel in the coming days to Iran, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian territories”.
France’s Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne disclosed this in a statement on social media platform X on Friday, April 12, 2024.

The French foreign ministry in the statement said that family members of diplomats based in Iran will be repatriated to France, and French civil servants are prohibited from undertaking any missions in Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and the Palestinian Territories.

Germany and Britain called for restraint from countries in the Middle East on Thursday. This appeal comes amid heightened tensions, with Israel asserting its readiness to address all security concerns in response to a perceived Iranian threat.

Lufthansa, the German airline and one of the two Western carriers serving Tehran, extended its suspension of flights to the Iranian capital. Meanwhile, Russia cautioned against travel to the Middle East.

This comes after Iran threatened reprisals against Israel over a strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria on April 1 that killed seven Revolutionary Guards including two generals, sparking fears of an escalation of violence in the Middle East.

Israel has bombarded the Gaza Strip since an unprecedented attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas against Israel on October 7. It has also stepped up strikes against Iranian personnel and allies in Syria and Lebanon.

Israel has traded near-daily cross-border fire with Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah since the start of the latest Gaza conflict.
