Mali’s transport ministry informed Reuters that Bamako, the capital, is currently experiencing fuel shortages, resulting in the inability to refuel commercial aircraft.
Airlines are being asked to refuel at alternate locations until next week.
“On Tuesday night, Ould Mamouni, a ministry spokesperson, cited increased flight operations as the cause of the fuel stock depletion.
“This announcement informs companies that due to limited fuel stocks, refueling in Bamako is currently unavailable. They are advised to obtain supplies in neighboring countries before arriving in Mali.”
According to a letter seen by Reuters late on Tuesday, the director general of Mali’s National Civil Aviation Agency has instructed the Mali representative of the regional air traffic control agency ASECNA to notify airlines about the measure.
This measure will be effective from July 9 to July 15.
“I urge you to promptly issue a notice to air operators regarding the unavailability of Jet A1 fuel at President Modibo Keita-Senou International Airport,” the director general stated. Airlines such as Turkish Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines operate services to Bamako.
