The Israeli political sphere erupted in celebration following the news of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash.
Alongside Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials also perished in the tragic accident in East Azerbaijan province.
Heritage Minister Amichay Eliyahu marked the occasion with a provocative post, featuring an image of a wine glass on X, accompanied by a “Cheers” caption.
In a subsequent post, Eliyahu defended the jubilation, highlighting the irony of those who had previously wished harm upon Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu now urging restraint in response to Raisi’s demise.
Avi Maoz, leader of the Noam party and a Knesset member, echoed the sentiment, recalling Raisi’s recent threat against Israel and remarking on the swift reversal of fortunes for the Iranian leader.
Avigdor Lieberman, former defense minister and leader of the opposition right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party, conveyed to the Ynet news site that Israel “will not mourn the death of the Iranian president.”
Despite individual responses, the Israeli government has not issued an official statement regarding the demise of top Iranian officials.
Mohammad Mokhber, Raisi’s deputy, assumed the presidency following the approval of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
