Israeli authorities bar UNRWA Commissioner-General from entering Gaza for 2nd time amid Humanitarian concerns

Israeli authorities bar UNRWA Commissioner-General from entering Gaza

Israeli authorities have prevented Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the UN agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), from entering the Gaza Strip for the second time since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war last October.

Lazzarini expressed concern over the increasing denial of humanitarian access and attacks on humanitarian workers and convoys.

He called on Israeli authorities to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into various parts of the Gaza Strip, including the north.

The conflict has caused extensive destruction in Gaza, leading to internal displacement and a humanitarian crisis.

Additionally, accusations of genocide against Israel at the International Court of Justice highlight the severity of the situation, with an interim ruling in January acknowledging the plausibility of such claims and urging Israel to cease such acts and ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.
