In the 12-month period leading up to February 2024, Chelsea disbursed over £75m to football agents and intermediaries, while Premier League clubs collectively spent £409.5m.
Manchester City surpassed £60m in agent fees, as revealed by the Football Association’s released figures encompassing payments made by Premier League, EFL, and National League clubs.
It’s worth noting that the reported figures may encompass transactions initiated before the reporting period began in February 2023.
Chelsea (£75.1m) and Manchester City (£60.6m) notably surpassed their Premier League counterparts in spending, with Manchester United ranking third at £34m, representing less than half of Chelsea’s total expenditure.
Since Todd Boehly assumed ownership of Chelsea in the summer of 2022, the club’s expenditure on transfer and loan fees has surpassed £1bn.
Notable among these deals is the potential British record-breaking signing of midfielder Moises Caicedo, with a value that could reach £115m.
Liverpool (£31.5m), Arsenal (£24.7m), and Aston Villa (£21.1m) have each exceeded £20m in agent fees spending, closely followed by Tottenham (£19.7m) and Newcastle United (£18.8m).
Luton Town emerged as the lowest spender among Premier League clubs, with a payout of £2m, while Leeds United (£13.2m), Leicester City (£8.1m), and Southampton (£7.5m), relegated from the top-flight last season, incurred the highest costs among current Championship teams.
The total expenditure among Championship clubs stood at £61.3m, in stark contrast to the £5.1m spent by League One clubs, where Derby County (£434,465) led in spending.
Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, led spending in League Two with £347,027 disbursed to agents and intermediaries, with the overall payments by current League Two clubs totalling £2.4m.
Among rival fourth-tier clubs, only Forest Green Rovers (£266,191) exceeded half of Wrexham’s outlay.
