Hoodlums steal food stuff after invading government's warehouse in Nigeria

Hoodlums have broken into a Nigerian government warehouse in Abuja, the nation’s capital, and looted foodstuffs and other items as economic hardship continues.

The hoodlums, who are mostly youths, attacked the warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria (NEMA) located at Karimo, Phase 3 Region of the FCT, Abuja, early morning on Sunday, March 3, 2024.

According to a witness who identified himself as Jaafar Aminu, the looting, which started around 7:00 a.m., continued till 9:00 a.m., adding that some residents as well as persons from neighbouring Jiwa and Karmo towns trooped towards the site to partake in the loot.

Christopher Agbo, another resident, stated that the looters didn’t hesitate to take anything they found useful from the warehouse, including the protectors used to barricade the site.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the spokesperson for the FCT command, Josephine Adeh, verified the incident in a text message, saying, “The situation is now under control.”

Many Nigerians have been expressing their frustration with the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the naira under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

These economic policies have significantly increased the prices of goods and the inflation rate. It has also led to a series of protests across the country.
