Heartbreak grips Nigeria: 21 church members Critical after jeep crashes into parade in Aba

Following a road parade, twenty-one members of the United Evangelical Church, Abayi International, located in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, were hurriedly taken to the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba.

This was the result of a collision with a fast-moving Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle.

The incident occurred on Thursday along Aba-Owerri road at about 6 p.m. during a sensitization road walk about International Women’s Day Celebration, undertaken by women and some members of the church’s Boys Brigade band.

Unfortunately, the accident brought the sensitization parade to an abrupt end, endangering 21 members of the church.

According to DAILY POST, many of the victims, including a pregnant woman, sustained injuries such as broken legs, hands and head injuries while others suffered various forms of internal injuries.

Nnamdi Kelvin, the pastor in charge of the church, expressed profound sadness about the incident while at the hospital, describing it as reckless and terrible, especially since the members were hit from behind by the vehicle.

Meanwhile, some of the injured individuals, speaking amidst deep pain, appealed to the Abia State government for financial assistance to access the necessary medical treatment to save their lives.

Four additional victims have been swiftly taken to an undisclosed private hospital by their relatives.

The driver of the Jeep, who purportedly attributed the accident to brake failure, has been apprehended and turned over to the World Bank Police station in Abayi.
