Four astronauts hailing from different countries returned to Earth aboard a SpaceX capsule after completing a six-month mission at the International Space Station.
Led by NASA’s Jasmin Moghbeli, the crew included Andreas Mogensen from Denmark, Satoshi Furukawa from Japan, and Konstantin Borisov from Russia.
Their capsule streaked across the United States before landing in the Gulf of Mexico near the Florida Panhandle in the early morning hours.
The astronauts moved into the space station last August, beginning their mission. Last week, their replacements arrived at the station via another SpaceX capsule, marking the transition of crews aboard the International Space Station.
O’Hara has a few more weeks remaining at the space station before departing aboard a Russian Soyuz capsule.
Before his departure, Mogensen expressed his anticipation of hearing “birds singing in the trees” and his craving for crunchy food, sharing his thoughts via X, formerly known as Twitter.
NASA prioritizes having multiple travel options in case of rocket trouble. Boeing is scheduled to commence providing astronaut taxi services with a two-pilot test flight in early May, further diversifying the agency’s transportation capabilities.
