Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who served as Nigeria’s head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007 is being honoured with Zambia’s Highest Citizenship Award in a ceremony on Thursday, July 14th.
The ceremony takes place at Lusaka, the countries capital. Two former Presidents, Ellen Sirleaf Johnson of Liberia and Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone are also getting honoured at the ceremony.
Kehinde Akinyemi, a former Nigerian president’s assistant on Media, made an announcement about the new honours for Nigerians. These honours were sealed through a government official gazette that was released on July 13th of this year.
Professor Akinyemi told the publication with Order 7146, Volume 58, Number 72 that, for the gazette notice No. 1067 of 2022 in the Constitution of Zambia, the acting Secretary of the Cabinet, PK Kangwa, signed it. The date on the document is 2022 and No. 1067.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, President Obasanjo said the honor served as a motivation to work hard for Africa, he said
“Honour has been done to the awardees, who thank the Nobel Committee for bestowing an honour on them.
We are honoured, and we promise to do better.”
