On Saturday the 16th of July, an Emirates A380 plane landed in Brisbane with a big, fat hole in its wing root fairing. It is unclear what caused the damage to the plane, but a video has been shared on Twitter that shows it clearly.
An Emirates A380 aeroplane landed in Brisbane on Saturday with a major mid-flight break near its wing route fairing. There was a loud bang around 30 minutes into the flight, which departed from Dubai. The intended destination was always Brisbane.
It’s possible that the “bang” may have been caused by a detatched bolt in the nose gear. This has not been confirmed, with some reports linking it to a blown tire. The A380 flight took off from Sydney on Saturday
morning and arrived in Brisbane at 11:44 pm on February 28th.
Emirates has issued a statement saying that the flight experienced a technical fault, causing one of the plane’s 22 tires to rupture during the cruise, more than likely an outer panel of the aircraft. The company has not given any specifics on what caused the tyre to rupture.
It didn’t affect the fuselage, frame or structure of the aircraft. The aircraft landed safely in Brisbane and all passengers disembarked as scheduled. Engineers replaced it, Airbus approved it and the relevant authorities state it to be safe.
