Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been sworn in on Tuesday before parliament for his third term in office.
The leader of the Arab world’s most populous country secured his position until 2030 following a resounding victory in the December elections where he garnered 89.6 percent of the votes.
The inauguration is expected to be his final six-year term unless he amends the constitution to extend his rule.
The inauguration ceremony coincided with the opening of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, situated in the desert east of Cairo.
Sisi came to power after the ousting of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013 and has been re-elected twice since, each time with overwhelming support.
However, his administration has grappled with economic challenges, including a sharp devaluation of the currency and high inflation.
Despite this, Egypt has recently secured over $50 billion in loans and investment deals, providing hope for economic revitalization.
