The 13th edition of the Games, which began on March 8, will be remembered for its outstanding athletic achievements.

Egypt emerged as the overall winners with 189 medals (101 gold, 46 silver, and 42 bronze), followed by Nigeria in second place with 120 medals, including 47 gold.

South Africa claimed third place with 106 medals, while Algeria secured fourth place with 114 medals.

Tunisia completed the top four with 87 medals. Despite initial setbacks, Ghana finished sixth with 19 gold medals.

Additionally, Morocco, Ethiopia, Mauritius, and Kenya rounded up the top 10 countries.

Of the 54 African nations, 53 participated in the event, with Cape Verde being the only absentee. Initially scheduled for August 2023, the games were postponed to March 2024 due to facility completion delays and revenue disputes.

Despite these challenges, Ghana successfully hosted a memorable championship, characterised by a spectacular opening ceremony at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The ceremony celebrated Africa’s cultural diversity through captivating performances and symbolised unity among participating nations.

Renowned Ghanaian musicians like Shatta Wale, King Promise, and South African sensation Kamo Mphela added to the ceremony’s allure, thrilling the audience with their performances.
