President Bola Tinubu has appointed DIG Egbetokun Olukayode as the acting Inspector General of Police.
Egbetokun who was a former Chief Security Officer to Tinubu, was recently appointed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police representing the South-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
DIG Egbetokun had replaced DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo who retired from service on March 15, 2023.
The Director, Office of the Secretary-General to the federation, Willie Bassey, made DIG Egbetokun’s appointment known in a statement.
Egbetokun who was a former commissioner of police in Lagos State, will be replacing former IGP Usman Alkali Baba.
Egbetokun also served as Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Fraud Unit, FCT Command, Abuja; Chief Superintendent of Police, Administration, Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja; Area Commander, Osogbo, Osun State Command; Area Commander, Gusau, Zamfara State Command, among others.
Egbetokun is an alumnus of the University of Lagos, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1987.
He also bagged a Master of Science (MSc) in Engineering Analysis from the University of Lagos, a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Economy from the Delta State University, Abraka, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos State University (LASU).
Egbetokun lectured in Mathematics at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, before he enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force.
