A fire broke out late Saturday at a girls’ boarding school in central Kenya, injuring at least three students and destroying property, according to the Kenya Red Cross and police.
This incident follows another deadly blaze at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri on Friday, which claimed the lives of at least 21 students.
Late on Saturday, the Kenya Red Cross reported a fire at Isiolo Girls High School in Isiolo County. By early Sunday, the blaze had been contained, leaving three students with minor injuries.
Kenya Police spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the fire was under control but did not disclose the cause.
Emergency teams, using flashlights, searched for students and salvageable items in the damaged dormitories, a Reuters witness reported.
The number of fatalities from the previous day’s fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy, initially reported as 17, has since risen to 21, according to a government statement.
The statement revealed that 19 bodies were found at the fire scene, while two additional victims passed away at hospitals where they had been treated.
