A 47-year-old named Folake Abiola, an accountant with one of Nigeria’s leading Communication companies, on Monday committed suicide by ingesting a potion of a popular pesticide (name withheld to discourage more usage) which eventually resulted in her death.
The incident occurred recently at her no 1 Abayomi Kukomi Close residence in Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos.
It was gathered that Afolake who is single and childless had suffered depression for a while before she took her life.
According to a close family relative who pleaded anonymity, “she has been battling depression for a while on account of no husband and no child and presently not in a relationship for over seven years.”
Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the incident happened on May 27, 2022.
He said: “When the policemen got to the scene, her family members were already there and they officially requested that the corpse be released to them to enable them to bury her according to Islamic rites.
Based on compassionate grounds, her corpse was released to her family for burial.”
