The Federal High Court in Lagos State has sentenced the popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky to six months in jail term with no option of a fine.

This was according to a ruling by Justice Abimbola Awogboro on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Recall that Bobrisky was convicted last week Friday, April 5, 2024, for abusing and mutilating the Naira notes following his arrest and arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC).

The court had fixed the date for sentencing after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of tampering with N490,000 by spraying, brought against him by EFCC.

Justice Awogboro held that the judgement would serve as a deterrence to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.

The Judge, however, ordered that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of Bobrisky’s arrest.

Before the sentence, the judge asked about his s*x, and he quickly replied that he was a man.

However, this is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity will be jailed for Naira abuse.

In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced to six months in prison for spraying and stepping on new naira notes.

The 31-year-old actress was arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on February 1, 2023, along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, after the video of her spraying and stepping on the newly redesigned naira notes at a party surfaced online.

In the video, she was also seen flaunting a bundle of the new currency.
