A court in Pakistan approved a request by the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday to be transferred to jail instead of remaining under house arrest, as ordered by the government due to security concerns.
Bushra Bibi, who has been detained at Khan’s hilltop mansion in Islamabad since their January conviction on charges of illegally selling state gifts, contested the house arrest through her lawyer Naeem Panjutha on the social media platform X.
Bibi had filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court, seeking to be moved to a jail.
The court directed authorities to transfer her to Adyala jail in Rawalpindi, the garrison city, where Imran Khan, the former cricket superstar and ex-prime minister, is currently serving his 14-year sentence, as per his party’s statement.
Bibi had raised concerns about the quality of food served by the authorities at the house, which had been designated as a sub-jail.
However, the authorities have refuted these allegations.
