Chris Hemsworth, the star of Thor and other Marvel movies, has revealed that he is taking a break from acting after learning that he has a high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease later in life. He discovered that he has two copies of the gene APOE4, which can be linked to the disease, while filming his docuseries Limitless.
Hemsworth said that the test results made him want to simplify his life and spend more time with his family. He said that he is not retiring, but taking a more curated approach to his career. He also said that his biggest fear is forgetting his wife and kids, whom he shares with Elsa Pataky.
Hemsworth said that he has made some lifestyle changes since learning about his genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s. He said that he has been eating healthier, exercising more, meditating and sleeping better. He also said that he has been trying to reduce stress and anxiety, which can affect memory and cognition.
Hemsworth currently has four upcoming projects, including an Avengers sequel and a Hulk Hogan biopic. But after those projects, sources close to the actor confirmed that he doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of his high risk for Alzheimer.
