Surveillance footage captured the chilling moments as a man armed with a semiautomatic weapon unleashed gunfire at passing vehicles on a bustling street in California, resulting in the death of one individual.
Julio Rodarte, 39, was apprehended under suspicion of murder and faces 10 counts of attempted murder.
Enrique Tores, owner of E & E Tires near the shooting scene, expressed profound sadness over the incident, particularly concerning the safety of his employees. He recounted hearing nearly 30 shots during the ordeal.
The incident unfolded on State Street, north of W. 7th Street, around 7 a.m. Monday. Rodarte reportedly made a failed attempt to purchase liquor at a nearby market before resorting to violence moments later.
After discarding the firearm and ammunition, Rodarte proceeded to strip naked before authorities arrived and took him into custody. The rampage resulted in damaged vehicles, one fatality, and another individual sustaining injuries.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established for the family of Victor Hugo Leon, 42, the victim of the shooting.
Described as a beloved individual with a bright smile and a great sense of humor, Leon leaves behind a wife, three sons, and a daughter, having tragically been shot while returning home from his overnight work shift.
