Cairo’s drum festival commenced this week, uniting approximately 40 folkloric troupes from across the globe.
The 11th International Festival for Drums and Traditional Arts launched in historic Cairo and will continue until the week’s end.
Among the participants are a Palestinian troupe and groups hailing from nations like Japan, China, and India.
Over 30 troupes from various regions of Egypt are also partaking in the festivities. Audience members erupted in cheers as Egyptian performers played familiar tunes, fostering a sense of unity and joy among attendees.
Established in 2009, the festival aims to convey a message of peace through spiritual music.
An attendee, Anouk Honore, expressed admiration for the festival’s message of peace and unity. The event spotlights drums, historically used in warfare, as a means to promote art and peace.
Intisar Abdel Fattah, the festival’s founder and director, emphasises the importance of fostering communication with cultures worldwide to promote love, forgiveness, and peace.
The festival’s shows take place against the backdrop of several historical and cultural sites.
Attendee Manal Kamal praised Egypt for hosting such an event, providing an opportunity to celebrate diverse cultures from around the world.
