The British Council in Nigeria has announced a 29% increase in fees for the English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, effective from February 1, 2024.
Nigerians will now pay N139,000 for the Computer Academic and General Training Modules, up from the current N107,500.
This marks the second fee hike in five months, with the previous increase implemented in September last year.
Attributing the increment to the rising costs of delivering exams in Nigeria, the Council stated that the adjustment aims to sustain a wide range of services and comprehensive support.
The new price list includes N134,000 for IELTS on Paper Academic and General Training Modules, N149,000 for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), N130,000 for Life Skills, and N87,570 for One Skill Retake (O.S.R).
IELTS is a globally recognized test for non-native English speakers, providing evidence of language proficiency.
The examination, a collaboration between the British Council, Cambridge English Language Assessment, and IDP Education Australia, is crucial for those seeking educational opportunities, employment, or visa approvals in the UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.
Many often question the efficiency of the test, an applicant not being from a native English speaking country does not mean bad command or understanding of the English language, especially those well educated, sometimes in the country receiving the application.
IELTS remains widely accepted by over 10,000 organisations in around 140 countries. It is held in high regard internationally because of its robust structure and assessment framework. It examines your communicative ability in everyday situations and scenarios for both work and study.
