Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram sect invaded Mafa and Jere local government areas of Borno State, on Thursday, killing youths in four communities.
According to a source, among the victims were four youths in Tamsu-Ngamdu, who were fetching firewood in the bush, two in Baram- Karuwa and one in Shuwari in Mafa Local Government Area, while one was killed in Muna in Jere Local Government Area of the state.
A resident of Tamsu-Ngamdu, Sheriff Goni told newsmen on Friday that, “One of the youths who is about 16 said the insurgents spared him so he could report the story. He said the victims had their hands tied at the back before they were shot.”
Following the incident, the state Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, visited the communities on Friday, and sympathised with the bereaved families.
Zulum assured that government would do everything humanly possible to put an end to insecurity in the state
Zulum said: “Government is refining strategies at combating insecurity to facilitate the undertaking of farming and other economic activities. Farmers should also augment the government’s efforts and design their respective communities’ strategies at fighting insecurity.”
He advised farmers not to go to their farms earlier than 6:00am, and not to stay on their farms longer
than 5.00pm.
The governor also directed security agents to rise up against the resurgence of terror activities in the state.
It was reported that gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram sect on June 15, killed no fewer than 15 farmers in Molai and adjacent communities in Konduga Local Government Area of the state.
