At least eight people were confirmed dead, and 15 others remain missing after devastating floods hit southeastern Morocco, according to local authorities.
Omar Bahoush, the mayor of Tamanart region, informed local Channel 2 that the floods caused several homes to collapse in Tata city.
At least eight lives were lost, and 15 others remain unaccounted for following devastating floods in southeastern Morocco, as reported by local authorities.
The floods, which struck Saturday evening, caused significant destruction in the region, as confirmed by local media.
On Friday, Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology issued a warning about impending thunderstorms that were expected to bring up to 150 mm of rainfall across various parts of the North African country.
Bahoush further told Anadolu that the floods have disrupted roads and severed communication lines within the city, complicating efforts to accurately account for the missing.
While southern Morocco has recently experienced much-needed rainfall, helping replenish depleted reservoirs, the deluge has also posed considerable threats to the nation’s agriculture.
Earlier in the week, three fatalities were reported due to flash floods triggered by heavy rains in eastern Moroccan cities.
